Where to eat in northern Wisconsin

Wondering where to eat in the Northwoods? No worries, we’ve got tips on your best bets for dining in and around Boulder Junction, whether you’re looking for a coffee shop to start your day, a place to pick up a quick lunch or a spot for a late-night snack.

Breakfast

Start your day Northwoods exploration with a pick-me-up at Dixie’s Coffee House in Manitowish Waters where you’ll find fresh-brewed coffee, espresso and tea, as well as baked goods and breakfast and lunch items.

The Granary Family Restaurant, located on Park Street in downtown Boulder Junction, is open year-round for breakfast and lunch.

Lunch

Head further north into Vilas County to find the Forest Lake Country Store, near land O’ Lakes which offers sandwiches, salads, burgers and pizza. Plus, Mom and Dad can browse the store’s selection of 150 craft beers and nearly 200 boutique wines.

When summer hits, head to Mad Dog Jake’s in downtown Boulder Junction for burgers, hot dogs, French fries and more—and don’t forget a scoop of Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream for dessert!

Dinner

Looking for fine dining? Head downtown to The Guide’s Inn, home to delicious dishes including veal, hand-cut steaks, pasta and pan-fried walleye. Smokey’s, located in nearby Manitowish Waters, offers diners a “casually elegant dining experience” with a menu that features steaks, chops, seafood and other house specialties.

Sample 20 craft beers on tap and enjoy lunch and dinner specials at Aqualand Ale House, a Northwoods gastropub located in downtown Boulder Junction. Or take in the sights and sounds of the Northwoods while enjoying food and drinks on the large outdoor patio at McGann’s Pub & Wine Bar.

Dinner (and after)
