A beach lover’s guide to Oneida County

With 1,100 lakes, Oneida County is the destination for people who love spending time on the water. While the county is known for great fishing and boating, it’s also home to some fine swimming beaches. These beaches are perfect places to cool off on a warm Northwoods day. They are all suitable for families and feature soft sand and clear water. Visitors can find swimming beaches in locations all over the county. Many resorts have private beaches for guests to enjoy but there are also plenty of beaches open to the public. Here’s a sample of some of the county’s public beaches.

Minocqua Area

Torpy Park – You’ll find this beach in the heart of Minocqua. There’s a picnic area at the beach as well as tennis courts.

Buffalo Lake – This public beach is located off Highway J near Woodruff.

Clear Lake – This beach between Minocqua and St. Germain is located off Highway J.

Three Lakes/Sugar Camp

Sugar Camp – This swimming beach is located off Hwy 17 North in Sugar Camp.

Maple Lake – In downtown Three Lakes you’ll find this fine swimming beach.

Lake Tomahawk

Town Line Lake – This beach is located off Highway 47 near the intersection of K. It features a picnic area.

Rhinelander

Hodag Park – This beach on Boom Lake is located off Thayer Street. The adjacent park features basketball and tennis courts as well as picnic areas.

Buck Lake – This public beach and picnic area is located off Hixon Lake Road.

Hazelhurst

Lake Katherine – You’ll find this public beach off Highway 51 near Ryden’s Marine.

Pelican Lake

Lake Venus – This beach and picnic area is located off Highway 8.

Pelican Lake – This public beach can be found off Highway 45.

Tomahawk

Swimming is available at SARA Park, Frenchtown Beach, Crystal Beach and Spirit Flowage Beach.
